for a capella SATB choir
From the concert program-
ENtroPY was composed for tonight's program in January of this year, with fond thoughts of Nikolai's incredible touch with new music. The piece is one in a series of my recent minimalist inspired works, the others being Eternity of the Mountain for Flute, Viola, Bass Trombone, and Piano, and a forthcoming, as of yet untitled, work for Trumpet and Piano. In this style I avoid traditional harmonic voicings, opting instead to explore sonorities that mimic a distorted harmonic series. The work is scored for SSAATTBB choir, occasionally featuring a Soprano soloist. Listen for the shape of the energy dispersion throughout the work. It starts with a highly detailed, ordered texture that gradually gives way to an increasingly static and unordered sound. The odd capitalization of ENtroPY has no meaning (other than to help the title jump off the page).
