I'm something of an outsider composer. Although I was born and educated in the northeast United States, most of my career—so far—has unfolded in remote places like Puerto Montt, Gunnison, and Metz, writing music for the people around me: my students and colleagues, church choirs, old friends from college, and musicians who reach out after performing my pieces they've found on IMSLP. If you're looking for a composer biography, you'll find that my path has been eclectic and far-flung, reflecting a distinctive voice that resonates with diverse audiences.

I'm still figuring out what I'm doing as a composer. In part, I compose simply because I always have composed, and I find it personally and spiritually fulfilling-- especially when the music connects with people. Many of my contemporaries focus on niche areas, writing for choirs, bands, or expermiental ensembles, seeking a single unified voice. There's nothing wrong with that, but my path has been more eclectic and far-flung. While people often recognize my music as having a distincitve voice, I don't adhere to any single style or language; I just write what seem beautiful and appropriate. I have been many people-- my music takes many voices.

My life as an immigrant, teacher, father, and working musician have taught me that what "works" is what people can feel and relate to--and what feels honest and compelling for me. I hope you enjoy my music.
